and Scheduling

MES PHARIS® offers a modul of Advanced Production Planning and Scheduling. The character of this module is a short-term and medium-term capacity planning of workshop production.

In principle, this module is used to plan of products released to the production. The planing is based on a predefined technological parameter from which utilizes the necessary standards - time, material, raw material, equipment, tools, etc.

The production plan can be displayed using:
  • The gantt diagram (see the picture below)
  • the form of user defined reports (see the "Reports")
Among the favorite reports belongs:
  • Evaluation of the shift,
  • comparing of planned and actual production time,
  • list of operations,
  • work flow,
  • view of the plan,
  • view of the staffs.

The benefits of MES PHARIS® planning

Taking into account the actual work in progress

During the calculation of production plan MES PHARIS® is able to take into account the actual work in progress for each workplaces. MES PHARIS® has a detailed on-line overview about the progress of individual manufacturing operations. More about the work in progress see the area "Monitoring of Work in Progress".

Connectivity with the Maintenance

When compiling the production plan the system is able to take into account the actual state of readiness of equipment. At the same time is available the actual overview of planned outages due the maintenance on the equipment. For more information see "Management of Maintenance".

Taking into account the real availability

MES PHARIS® works with the work calendars. These calendars are used for the definition of available time of the particular machines, workplaces and associated equipment. Different devices may have assigned different work calendars, exceptions in the form adding, deleting of shifts etc.

Taking into account the actual state of tools

During the creating of production plan the system is able to take into account the tool state tied to the manufacturing operation. Subsequently, during the simulation the system warns for example the need for tool maintenance during the production. Then it is up to the planner if he prefers the maintenance before the production or during the production. Automatic distribution of the job queue on the production terminals

After the simulation the planner accepts the optimal variant as a production plan. Then the system PHARIS® distributes the job queue on the production terminals in the production where these manufacturing operations are registered by operators. The advantage of job queue is the possibility of transition to the next operation without the need of rescheduling, for example in the case of machine failure.

Taking into account the qualifications of users

When planning there is a possibility to take into account the qualification matrix, therefore plan to the limited capacity of individual expertise. Otherwise the MES system plans no matter of the availability of trained operators and consequently offers the possibility of displaying the report with the necessary qualification in each shifts.

The possibility of immediately respond to alarms from production, operational re-planning

Planner can be one the of of the addressees of the defined group of alarms (see area "Alarms and Escalation System"). The task is to ensure the timely predictive informed planners about the delay in production, for instance slow cycles, exceeded of setting time, failure and so on. These incentives can be impulse for timely re-planning taking into account the current states and work in progress.

Displaying of the course of production status in the Gantt diagram

MES PHARIS® displays the course of production status of single operations in gantt diagram in the form of progress bar. MES PHARIS® system allows a displaying links between operations of the same work order, which this semifinished product consumes.
 

The parametrization of calculation of the prodcution plan, evaluation function

The planning is influenced by the user setting of the parameters for calculation of the plan (planning from right/left side, planning according to simple/genetic algorithm, setting of evaluation functions in the form of weighting coefficients, ...) etc. The system will display a clear graphical form of planned and ongoing sale order interspersed on timeline and calendars showing milestones of individual operations.

The system offers a several optimization mechanisms for calculating the production plan from the rapid allocation of resources with validation of input criteria, up to the use the principle of genetic iterative algorithms for finding the optimal plan. It is also possible to combine the method of left-sided and right-sided planning depending on the prefered term of completion of sale order.

The calculation of the plan usually takes tens of seconds, during which the calculation uses tens of thousands variants.

The behavior of the production plan is possible affect by two set of parameters:
  • System parameters - these parameters are applicable for all production plans,
  • dynamic parameters - the parameters for calculating the production plan, which are adjustable for individual partial production plans and simulations
 

Coverage the entire manufacturing process with taking into account the JUST IN TIME

The planning comes from the definition of manufacturing operations specified for the given varaint of product (semifinished product) within the production definition. These operations can cover whole manufacturing process across each single operation.

To creat an efficient production plan the system offers within the production definition to define the transient conditions between individual operations. Within defining the operations and transient conditions can be defined e.g. setting time, time to start, transit time, type of conditon the end-begging/begging-the end/the end-the end, connection method, tool etc.

When choosing the right-side way of planning the system applies the principle of logic JUST IN TIME.
 

The planning of work orders of products and semifinished products

This area uses the logic among the planning of work order for final products and semifinished products including the parts list. The system optimizes the beginnings of the production depending on requested criteria. The usual goal is to achieve a parallel production, for instance the production of the final product that begins after the production of the first shipping dose of semifinished products.

During the planning the system distinguishes between:
  • Work order according to the order - here is primarly taken into account the required date of completion,
  • work order for semifinished product as an input raw material - the required date of completion is depended on consumption of work order, for which the work order of semifinished product is an input.
 

Capacity planning into the limited resources

Standardly the system offers the possibility of creating the production plan to the limited capacities of defined resources.

Among the typical capacity limited resources belongs:
  • Machines and equipment,
  • workplaces,
  • associated equipment, tools,
  • persons,
  • material.
Due to lack of resource capacity it is possible to define the following behavior of the calculation - Ignore the shortage, only report the shortage, Restrict the plan depending on the capacity.
 

Providing of simulations based on the change of input conditions

The planner has the option to do and save various simulations of the production plan. The simulation can be influenced by changing the input conditions of work orders, which usually are the required quantity and the required date of delivery.
 

Notification of critical points

The system notifies users at critical points and allows a user simple change of the input conditions for the planning of individual sale order. During the planning the system notifies of the use of the available production capacity:
  • Time required to complete the sale order (eventually the milestones realted to operations),
  • failure to meet the deadline for delivery,
  • availability of raw materials at the store,
  • the capacity of the equipment (molding machine, molds, assembly workplaces,...) needed to complete the operations.
 

Interconnectivity with ERP systems

The planning module in the MES system is used in close comunication with ERP systems. For this communication is used the standardized communicatoin inferface. More abou the communicaton with ERP see "Integration".

As an example can be the picking of sale order, reference into the MES system or in the different way e.g. sending of information about the material need into the ERP, which is distributed in time according to actual scheduled needs.
